shelley & tim – november 10, 2007

At last, I have a few images from Shelley and Tim’s wedding to post! This was such a fun afternoon. Their wedding took place in Dublin, Texas – home of Dr. Pepper! Any fans out there?? Shelley and Tim are FUN people, and I so enjoyed getting to know them, shooting their family portraits, and shooting their wedding. Thank you guys for allowing me the honor of being a part of your wedding day!! I will soon be finished editing all of their images, and am SO excited to get them delivered! In the meantime, here are a few that I like.

playing catch up

Sorry for such a long silence! I DO have every intention of posting a bit more often than I have in the past three’ish weeks. Unfortunately, a lot has been happening in the Swan household. My sweet husband, Rich, had surgery on Nov. 8th to remove an enlarged lymph node from his neck for a biopsy, and he was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma the next day. Also known as Hodgkin’s Disease, it is a blood cancer. Needless to say, since then our days have been filled with Dr. appointments too numerous to count. He underwent many tests, including a bone marrow biopsy, in order for his oncologist to determine what stage his cancer is in. That was finally confirmed this past Tuesday, and we now know he is in stage 2a. This means that he will go through 4 months of chemotherapy, followed by about 4 weeks of radiation. We begin chemo on Wednesday; Rich is eager to try out the handy new port that they put in his chest!

These next few months won’t be easy ones, but we are confident that they will be GOOD ones. We know we are not walking through this alone. We are immensely thankful for the many, many people who have been praying for us. God is good and we are so blessed.

I’m attaching a picture of Rich. This is his “Oh man, she’s at it again….” look. He bought me a new camera for my birthday last month, and I was playing around with it. What a cutie!!!

style me pretty

I have been given the incredible honor of being included in Style Me Pretty’s Little Black Book of Wedding Vendors. This is particularly exciting because this “go to” blog for brides has caught the attention of Martha Stewart! She even talked about it, along with three other wedding blogs, on her morning show back in September.

Abby, creator of Style me Pretty, debuted the LBB yesterday and describes it as “a highly edited collection of wedding service providers—from mom and pop boutiques to the red carpet A-listers.” Oh my! Well, enough of me gushing over this. Go check it out! It is located at http://www.stylemepretty.com/little_black_book/index.html

Now even MORE reason to work really hard on creating my new website! Soon I will be debuting something of my own: www.melanieswanphoto.com. Hopefully it will be a smooth transition from the good ole’ MB Photography.

Okay, back to work…

testing, testing….my first post

November is already here…..and the holidays are upon us. The air outside has turned cooler (hey, 75 degrees is cool for Texas!), Macy’s is decked out in its holiday best in hopes of luring in passersby, and soon….we will hear Christmas carols on the radio. Yes, my friends, it’s that time of year once again. Brace yourselves for the onslaught of holiday advertising, the hustle to get shopping done and presents wrapped, and last minute ticket purchases on AA or Southwest Airlines (my personal favorite!). How can anyone actually enjoy this season, some may ask? For me it is simple. I don’t care about the gifts, or the Christmas tree, or the large blow-up Santa in the front yard (*gag*). I just want to sit with my family in a cozy living room (preferably with a fireplace crackling a melodic tune, snow dancing to that melody just outside the window) drinking hot chocolate, laughing over childhood memories, missing those who are no longer here, and reveling in the joy brought by those who have been added. These moments are true gifts, and they are more dear than anything that could be placed in a box, wrapped, and topped with a bow. These are the things we should cherish. These are the things I need to cherish even more than I do now. I am so blessed.
